Zomato's 'On-Time Or Free' feature

"Kabhi to late ho jaata?"
You guys must be listening to this tagline very frequently nowadays on your TVs with the "thoda saa late ho jaata" song playing in the background.
Well, it all started with a tweet by Zomato saying "What is the craziest thing you have done to get free food?". In the same tweet later on, it announced it's OTOF (On-Time Or Free) feature.

This feature was first introduced by one of the most loved pizza joints Dominos which has had it's '30 minutes or free' feature for years. Unlike Dominos, Zomato has not specified any particular time period as of now. Zomato claims that with the introduction of this feature, it's customers will either get their food guaranteed on time or their money back.

Zomato and Swiggy have always been tough competitors in a bid to get larger share in the food market in India. For the same reason, Zomato recently bought UberEats, a sub brand of Uber. As per a TechCrunch report, the deal "currently values UberEats' India business at around $400 million". As part of the deal, "Uber may invest between $150 to $200 million in Zomato", the report claimed. Apart from this, Zomato's OTOF offer is yet another attempt to attract more number of potential customers and increase it's customer base.

However, the feature has caught the attention of some customers who were concerned about the added pressure on the delivery boys for delivering the order on time which in turn can lead to breaking of traffic rules. But Zomato didn't stay silent either. “Our delivery partners aren't even informed whether the order they're going to deliver is an 'On Time Or Free' order or not, therefore eliminating the chances of them breaking rules to bring your order on time," it said in a statement.

As Zomato is one of the most consumer-engaging food app, this feature is the 'icing on the cake'. So what are you waiting for? Go, open your Zomato app and avail your On-Time Or Free offer NOW!

  1. Competition is always beneficial for customers! But safety of delivery boys should be of utmost priority and good to know that Zomato is not pressurising its delivery boys. That's the way!!
