In life there are a lot of deceptive things, like people, promises, companies, but now food, the thing we love the most, has now also been added to the list.
You know when we look at an ice cream commercial and think "that sorbet's texture is just what my taste buds need right now", but it's not actually sorbet just and colored mashed potatoes. Haven't we all had an unsettling experience when a fast food advertisement has us drooling all over the place, But when the actual thing comes to your table you feel all the excitement leave the body and the appetite just falls down.
In this blog, let's unmask the illusion of fast food marketing.
Fast food chains, from the recent times, focus only on attracting customers through false imagery of their actual product. It feels like all their efforts and money just goes into advertising. The images of the foods depicted in the commercials on billboards and social media exhibit the food as if it descended right from heaven with a halo around it. The tempting images trigger cravings and excitement. Falling right into the trap, we order the crisp perfect length fries or the pizza full of fresh toppings and generous amount of cheese. However, we receive just the opposite.
Ingredients used are not so fresh and anti promissory, the toppings are completely stale, if present at all. After taking the money you could've spent on an entire week's grocery for just one single plate, fast food restaurants don't even care to look twice at the disease causing meal they are serving. The dichotomy between the advertisement and the actual thing is not only about the aesthetics. It severely affects our health.
The processed foods we buy loose all their nutritional value in the process. We even ignore our own health just for indulgence because of all the psychological tricks ads play with our heads. The food that restaurants serve to their customers after practically luring them in causes a lot of health problems.
It's essential that we, as consumers take our own initiative to exercise the right to be informed. The need for transparency as it at its highest and the regulatory bodies to ensure that the citizens are served right.
