SCIENCE-BASED AYURVEDIC HEALTH CARE GAINS CONSUMER MIND SPACE

“The ayurvedic route to great health involves two simple steps: doing less and being more!’’

Ayurveda, is a science of life with a holistic approach to health and personalized medicine. It is known to be a complete medical system that comprised physical, psychological, philosophical, ethical, and spiritual health.

India is considered to be the land of origin of Ayurveda. It is a system of natural and holistic medicine. The knowledge of Ayurveda was passed on orally through a lineage of sages in India until it was

collated into text more than five thousand years ago. The oldest known texts on Ayurveda are the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and the Ashtanga Hrudaya. These texts detail the affect that the five elements found in the cosmic system - earth, water, air, fire, space – have on our system, and expound on the importance of keeping these elements balanced for a healthy and happy life.

" The great thing about Ayurveda is that its treatments always yield side benefits, not side effects."

The emergence and rapid spread of Covid-19 did more than just alter the way we live. It, in fact, enlightened people’s minds towards living a healthy lifestyle and

make health the first preference. It served as a clarion call to action, to concerted efforts towards in-creasing the relevance of Ayurveda as one of the key pillars to the future of Healthcare in India.

Do we all remember the 5000 years tested science- AYURVEDA? During the period of lockdown, immunity became one of the most searched words on google, reflecting its growing prominence in the prime property called “consumer mindset”.

When all the people were just locked in their homes they went for home remedies to boost up their immunity. These days people are more inclined towards the immunity boosters such as chawanprash, turmeric milk, giloy, and ashwagandha. This shows the growing interest of people towards Ayurveda which is considered to have no side effects.

It has consequently increased the demand for ayurvedic products and also a greater collaboration between the Public and Private sectors. For instance, Dabur is conducting studies for Prophylaxis and management of Covid-19, along with various state governments and the Ministry of AYUSH( Ayurveda, Yoga &Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and homeopathy). This offers an excellent opportunity to make Ayurveda-based Healthcare mainstream and popularise hitherto hidden gems of Ayurveda for prophylactic healthcare.

Personal care products segment is also leading the ayurvedic market globally due to increasing awareness of personal care products, changes in consumption patterns and lifestyles.

Some of the driving factors favouring the market growth includes growing demand for natural and organic products, increasing consumer awareness and growing demand for ayurvedic cosmetics products, expanding medical tourism throughout the globe.

Although ayurvedic medicines usually do not have any side effects yet consumers should carefully check its ingredients and do proper research before using any new product. In case of ayurvedic cosmetics , patch tests are advised. Ayurveda is a science of life and our body must be credited with the immense fund of know-how.
